The building called “Cal Boyer” is an old cotton mill in the late nineteenth century. It still has the two buildings and the chimney. In this complex there is the Museum of the skin, where you can see the production, use and meaning of culture in civilization and all work produced there.
About the tannery “Cal Granotes” it is one of the oldest in Europe. Built in the eighteenth century still have two plants typical of a tannery and brickyard: the banks and the top floor for hanging or drying. Today shows the system of vegetable-tanned hides used before industrialization. Furthermore, this tannery used for making leather trimmings for animals and carriages pulled by horses, making backups and drive belts for factories. This building was opened in 1990 and joined the Museum as a second building behind the main building “Cal Boyer”.
Reviewing his history, the museum opened in 1954 (in the picture above can see an overview of the time) textiles rooms opening in 1955 where you can see the machinery, materials, textiles and technical documentation. He was part of the Municipal Public Foundation for more than 30 years, and in 1996 the City Council introduced him to the county museum of Catalonia and the following year in 1997 he changed the name to Museum Igualada Leather and County of Anoia.
In this museum besides the skin is also water, being able to visit three spaces, The Museum of Skin Tannery “Cal Granotes” and “Man and the Water”.
This museum in 1992 won the 1991 FAD’91 granted for the Promotion of Arts and Design on Architecture.
